Loving Those Locks for a Reason

Dannika has been on a mission, a mission to grow her hair to 10 inches in hopes of donating it to Locks of Love, http://www.locksoflove.org/ , to help another child in need of hair. I told Dannika about Locks of Love about three years ago and she jumped at the chance to do something great for someone else. Love this girls heart. There have been many times I wanted to cut it off. Many a morning that she would wail hold her hair down screaming no at me while I tried to brush all those snarls out. Oh dear! Every time I threatened to cut it off and she would scream, "No!" We finally made it to 10" and it gave her a little room to spare.

One last look at the beautiful long hair....

And then it was .... GONE!!

I love this smile and how she just radiates goodness.

Love this length right here, but when we had to put it in pony tales to cut it off things got a little uneven, thus making it get a little bit shorter. Mornings have been AMAZING at our house. Brushing through the hair is a simple task and she has only worn it down so far. I would like to play with it a bit and try some little braids in the front, but perhaps once we are through this week things will slow down a tiny bit. We have had lots of basketball this week.

AND then, as Destiny watched her sister getting all the glory she wanted a part of the action. I was not so sure about this plan. We have NEVER cut Destiny's hair. It was down to her bun - about 15" past her neck line. We measured. So, then I thought it might be cute. It might be fun. It might be a good thing. If she wants to do it, and we can donate it. How many ethnic wigs can they make? AND.... we went for it.

At this point, mommy was seriously near tears! Her long beautiful hair that we had worked so hard to grow, oh ... I'm not so sure about this.

AND - then I saw THIS smile! Beautiful. My heart was at ease and I knew it was going to be what it was and we can always grow it again if that's the direction she wants to go. She says, "I want Afro Circus!" She was a little disappointed that it did not quite look like an afro until after she slept on it!~

We are not quite sure on a style yet, or if this is a style, but the back goes up in a wedge, not really cut that way, but it just curls right up and it seriously is just CUTE on her.

We had to try out the pony tails and it is still long enough for little poofs. I have not tried braiding yet, but I am pretty sure it will sure take a lot less time braiding. So far so good - I'll keep you updated! I sure would love to see the wigs made out of their hair, and I am so proud of the big hearts these girlies have to help others. Keep it up and let's grow another 10 inches. (daunting....)

Love it! I love donating my hair. It is so fun to grow it out then chop it off!
