I snapped a quick picture with my phone when Destiny and Dannika were practicing for their church Christmas Program. Destiny cracked us up. She knew all the actions to the two songs they sang and she was quite upset that the little kids did not get to sing Silent Night with the others. She had been practicing with her CD and thought she knew it!! So much fun! The program was actually two weekends ago and it turned out that Dannika had the flu and missed her part in the program. We did get to watch from the back until Devan got done with his part then I left with my sick girl. So - just had to share my one cute picture. I did not get any others, so if anyone has some to share and I'm on the hunt for a video as well. I am sure the church has some - just have to get one, since I didn't even get to see the whole thing.
I titled this blog post Monday Mayhem because my Monday is especially crazy today. Why? I don't even know. The weekend was wonderful. We celebrated Christmas yesterday with the big Weelborg family and had a fun time. The kids enjoyed playing together and "getting to know" all their cousins. It seems like they don't get together very much, even though we are all fairly close. People are just too busy I guess.
This morning I got up and started my day and looked at my disaster of a house. I try to pick up and get a load of laundry going before I leave for the day. I had two baskets of girls clothes to put away and the boys' rooms are still a disaster from our basement flood, so just going downstairs makes me nauseous. I really HATE being in a mess!! I just hate starting out my day feeling this overwhelming need to clean up! Anyone else do that?
THEN - I see my 11 year old standing around, asking if I will be able to help him study tonight as he has three tests tomorrow. Now, I am not sure if I have talked about Devan very much on my blog, but he is an organized studying fool! He likes to be very prepared for tests and such. He did not bring books home this weekend to study from and had no worksheets handed back yet. So, we have to do it tonight. I love it that he cares. I love it that he wants to do well. I love it that he is not satisfied with an A-, but strives to do the very best he can. BUT - when my 11 year old stands there asking for my help with big crocodile tears slipping down his cheek that he thinks I didn't notice, yikes!!! I know both Shaine and I were the exact same way. I think I was more of a procrastinator than Shaine, but perhaps not. That was a LONG time ago! That is also a lot of pressure for this young man! Devan also has to finish reading a book by Thursday and take an AR test on it which he must pass as he needs 6 more points for this quarter. Last night he climbed in bed with me and asked if I would read with him. I LOVE to read with my kids and it is a VERY RARE occasion that he even wants to read. As it turns out he HAD to get it done! Reading is not his favorite thing in the whole world. He will never just pick up a book for fun. He would way rather play basketball or fly a remote control airplane or tease his sister. There are so many other options that appeal to him much more than reading! Needless to say, I talked to him about starting to read BEFORE the week it is due. Hopefully, that will work for next quarter. We will be studying Social Studies AND Science tonight and hoping we can get through it all to his satisfaction. Wish me luck in the studying department. I thought I was past that chapter of my life, but apparently not. It is starting all over again!
